High-Arc FR Outerwear for Cold, High-Hazard Environments
NFPA 2112 Certified, CAT 2–4 FR Jackets & Outerwear
Non-FR layers creep into compliant programs as temperatures drop. This collection keeps electric utility, oil and gas, and construction crews warm inside the system — FR jackets, coats, and sweatshirts across CAT 2 through CAT 4, selected against the site's hazard assessment, with flame resistance engineered to remain effective through industrial laundering per manufacturer care instructions. Browse: FR Jackets & Coats, FR Sweatshirts.
High-Arc FR Jackets & Coats for Linemen & Transmission Crews
Electric utility transmission crews and linemen working on high-energy systems may require NFPA 70E CAT 3 or CAT 4 protection at 25 cal/cm² or higher. Bulwark FR jackets and coats — parkas, lineman's coats, and bombers — carry the collection's highest arc ratings (each style's ATPV or EBT is on its product page), certified to NFPA 2112 and built from inherent Nomex® Essential and rugged FR-treated Duck cotton with DWR finishes for weather protection.
FR Sweatshirts for Lighter Layering in Cold Conditions
For cooler conditions, Bulwark FR Sweatshirts provide a hooded fleece layer with arc-rated styles from CAT 2 through CAT 4. The Hood Shield™ design and DWR-finished FR fleece add warmth as an outer layer in mild cold or a mid-layer under an FR jacket. Certifications vary by fleece style — check each product page for its NFPA 2112 status and ATPV.

What arc rating do Bulwark FR jackets carry? +
Outerwear in this collection spans NFPA 70E arc-flash PPE categories CAT 2 through CAT 4 (minimums of 8, 25, and 40 cal/cm²). Outer layers carry the role's full exposure, so set each jacket's rating from the product-page ATPV and the task's arc-flash risk assessment.
Are Bulwark FR jackets NFPA 2112 certified? +
Bulwark FR jackets and coats in this collection are certified to NFPA 2112 for flash-fire protection, with inherent Nomex® Essential building flame resistance into the fiber and FR-treated Duck cotton warranted by Bulwark to remain flame-resistant when laundered per manufacturer care instructions. For fleece sweatshirts, certifications vary by style — confirm NFPA 2112 status on each product page.
What is the difference between the FR Lineman’s Coat and FR Parka? +
Both are built for high-energy arc-flash work. The lineman's coat uses heavyweight FR-treated Duck cotton for abrasion resistance and durability in demanding field conditions; the parka uses inherent Nomex® Essential with insulation for warmth in cold outdoor work. Both are certified to NFPA 2112 — compare each style's ATPV on its product page against the role's required rating.
Can FR outerwear be worn over a standard non-FR jacket for extra warmth? +
Not if it can melt. NFPA 70E prohibits meltable synthetics — polyester, nylon, and blends — worn beneath arc-rated clothing, because a melting inner layer can cause severe burn injuries even when the outer FR layer performs correctly. Non-melting natural fibers such as untreated cotton are permitted as underlayers but add no arc rating. Arc-rated inner layers such as FR sweatshirts and base layers both comply and add to the layered system's protection — check your employer's FR program requirements.
What CAT level do Bulwark FR Sweatshirts cover? +
Bulwark FR Sweatshirts carry arc-rated styles from CAT 2 through CAT 4 — each style's ATPV is on its product page. Certifications vary across fleece styles, so confirm the NFPA 2112 status per style when setting a program standard.
What fabrics are used in Bulwark FR outerwear? +
Bulwark FR jackets use inherent Nomex® Essential for high arc-rated performance; Duck cotton styles use FR-treated heavyweight Duck, warranted by Bulwark to remain flame-resistant when laundered per manufacturer care instructions; and FR sweatshirts use DWR-finished FR fleece. Inherent and FR-treated constructions both appear in this collection — each style's fabric is listed on its product page.
