The Workhorse of an FR Uniform Program
NFPA 2112 & ASTM F1506 FR Work Shirts for Oil & Gas and Utility Crews
The work shirt is the garment a uniform program is judged by — worn daily, laundered constantly, visible on every crew member. This collection covers oil and gas, electric utility, and maintenance roles with NFPA 2112 certified, ASTM F1506 arc-rated wovens across CAT 1 and CAT 2, selected against the site's hazard assessment and engineered to keep their flame resistance through industrial laundering per manufacturer care instructions. NFPA 2112 Certified FR Work Shirts for Flash-Fire Environments
Flash fires in oil and gas environments ignite in an instant when flammable vapors meet an ignition source. NFPA 2112 certified FR work shirts are third-party tested — including verification that flame resistance endures industrial laundering — and designed to self-extinguish once the ignition source is removed, limiting body burn injury. The line runs on inherent Nomex® Essential and Ten Cate Evolv™ fibers, alongside FR-treated 88% cotton/12% nylon wovens warranted by Bulwark to remain flame-resistant when laundered per manufacturer care instructions.
ASTM F1506 Arc-Rated Work Shirts for NFPA 70E Programs
Electric utility and maintenance electricians who must meet NFPA 70E daily-wear arc-flash PPE requirements need shirts arc-rated and certified to ASTM F1506. Bulwark FR work shirts cover CAT 1 (minimum 4 cal/cm²) and CAT 2 (minimum 8 cal/cm²) tasks — product pages carry the ATPV for every style. Woven construction provides durability for field use. Note that NFPA 70E PPE-category tables specify arc-rated long-sleeve shirts — long-sleeve styles satisfy that line item, while short-sleeve styles serve settings the employer's program allows.

What is the arc rating of Bulwark FR work shirts? +
Woven styles here span NFPA 70E CAT 1 and CAT 2 — minimum arc ratings of 4 and 8 cal/cm² respectively. The ATPV for each style sits on its product page, and the employer's arc-flash risk assessment determines which category a task requires.
Are Bulwark FR work shirts NFPA 2112 certified? +
Yes. Bulwark FR work shirts are certified to NFPA 2112 for flash-fire protection, with third-party testing that confirms flame resistance holds up to repeated laundering. Inherent Nomex® Essential and Ten Cate Evolv™ styles build flame resistance into the fiber; FR-treated cotton blend styles are warranted by Bulwark to remain flame-resistant when laundered per manufacturer care instructions.
What is the difference between an FR work shirt and a regular work shirt? +
A conventional cotton or poly-cotton work shirt can ignite and keep burning — and polyester content can melt onto skin. An FR work shirt certified to NFPA 2112 and arc-rated to ASTM F1506 is designed to self-extinguish once the ignition source is removed, and carries a tested ATPV. Where a hazard assessment identifies arc-flash or flash-fire exposure, NFPA 70E and employer FR programs require arc-rated garments — a regular shirt does not qualify.
What fabrics are used in Bulwark FR work shirts? +
Three fabric families cover the collection: inherent Nomex® Essential, inherent Ten Cate Evolv™, and FR-treated 88% cotton/12% nylon wovens. In the inherent fabrics, flame resistance is built into the fiber and does not wash out when laundered per manufacturer care instructions; the treated cotton blends are warranted by Bulwark to remain flame-resistant under the same care conditions.
Can FR work shirts be industrially laundered? +
Yes. Bulwark FR work shirts are designed for industrial laundering. Flame resistance is engineered to remain effective through repeated wash cycles per manufacturer care instructions, validated by NFPA 2112 laundering-durability testing.
Do Bulwark FR work shirts meet ASTM F1506? +
Yes. Bulwark FR work shirts are certified to ASTM F1506, the standard for arc-rated flame-resistant clothing used in arc-flash PPE programs. ASTM F1506 certification is required for garments used to satisfy NFPA 70E daily-wear arc-flash PPE requirements.
Can short-sleeved FR shirts be worn as single-layer protection? +
No — a short-sleeved work shirt worn alone leaves the arms uncovered, falling short of NFPA 70E's direction to cover potentially exposed areas as completely as possible. Long-sleeve styles satisfy the arc-rated shirt line item in the PPE-category tables; short-sleeve styles serve settings the employer's program permits, paired with arc-rated layers where required.
